SS Everything about that machine in the photo in your post looks just like my grandmother's machine (which is now mine), except the decals the designs are much more, I guess 'Egyptian,' would be a good way to describe it.
Here is a pic I found with a quick Google image search: As you can see, it looks like your model has been repainted / overpainted with Wrinkle Finish paint at some time, and the dust cover for the oiling point on the arm is missing (though that should be easy to fix).

It's the 2nd Version of the 'VS - Vindex' called the 'Vindex C' - whch would explain the 'V.C.' On the manual cover. That is a 'National Sewing Machine Company' model produced from the 1890's to roughly the 1930's onwards. And their Model 'B's have a slightly different spool holder. It looks a bit like their Damascas Grand Rotary but the bobbin winder is different. Since Eldredge made machines under that name from 1869-1890 and most of their early models were hand cranks I would hazard a guess it is a Model 'B' from the 1890's. I am not an encyclopedia of sewing machine knowledge but I did research on mine a bit ago so I checked the places I found my info. Some okay pictures of the machine taken by the previous owner. Again, not sure how significant this is, but I hope it can help.
Also, under the front shuttle plate is the number 347895. The instruction manual's cover (which is very poor condition) also says 'V.C.' And that's really all I could make out, I'm not sure if this is the model type or not, but it might help in figuring out how old it is. Bernadette, 4 years ago The serial number will be on the front edge of the machine under the front bobbin slide cover. The Windsor B is a National, sold by Montgomery Wards, it's like the model known as Improved Eldredge B but they used the name on several models.
